Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2001 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff. The Festival’s mission focuses on assisting filmmakers to reach a broad audience and to promote New York City as a major filmmaking center.

The festival has attracted over two million attendees since it was founded. The 2008 Tribeca Film Festival will commence on the 23rd of April and conclude on the 4th of May.

Trucker, directed and written by James Mottern. (USA) - World Premiere.

Michelle Monaghan is riveting as a tough-talking, devil-may-care truck driver who is faced with raising her estranged 11-year-old son after his father (Benjamin Bratt) is hospitalized. This eloquent and uplifting story also features Joey Lauren Adams and Nathan Fillion (Waitress).

…IONCINEMA.com headquarters like to guestimate the films that have fabulous chances at preeming at the event [Sundance Film Festival]. Keeping track on all U.S indie developments is the name of our game, so without much further ado – here is a potential list of 20 films comprised of long shots, low probabilities and a couple of no-brainer picks (including a clumping of docu projects) that should be clamoring for attention….

11. Trucker

This one has got Sundance angel dust all over it – plus it’s got Joey Lauren Adams who looks great in a tuque in Park City. Trucker is James Mottern’s directorial debut and sees Monaghan play a female truck driver who lives a careless life with no responsibility until she has to take in her estranged 11-year-old son after his father (Bratt) is hospitalized.

Trucker Movie - filming photos

Johnny and Nicholas worked on a feature film called Trucker. This film stars Michelle Monaghan, Nathan Fillion, Joey Lauren Adams, Benjamin Bratt and Jimmy Bennett. Film is by first-time helmer James Mottern based on his own script which tells of a female “Trucker” (played by Monaghan) who’s life of no responsibilities changed when her ex-husband is put into hospital leaving her to take care of her eleven-year-old son.

What’s left for Nathan Fillion?

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

Nathan Fillion hasn’t found success captaining a starship (“Firefly”) or driving a fast car (“Drive”), but he hasn’t given up on vehicular vehicles yet. The Waitress star is signed on to appear in Trucker, a film about a female truck driver who lives a life free of responsibility until she suddenly is tied to her 11-year-old-son after his father his hospitalized.

No, Fillion isn’t playing the female trucker. Instead Michelle Monaghan (Mission Impossible III) will take the lead in the movie, according to Variety. He isn’t playing the hospitalized father either; that role is going to Benjamin Bratt. I know what you’re thinking – that leaves the son. Nope, Jimmy Bennett (Hostage) will play the bundle of responsibility.

So who does that leave for Nathan Fillion? No idea. Although both he and Joey Lauren Adams are included in the cast list for the movie, there’s no indication who or what they’ll be playing. For now we’ll pretend there some sort of evil trucking couple who want to knock the lead character out of their way so they can be the best truckers ever. Probably they kidnap the little boy too. Seriously, we have no clue and I’m just making stuff up at this point, so don’t quote me.

Total Film

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Last year’s Woman Of The Year, Michelle Monaghan has signed on to star in Trucker, an indie drama from Plum Pictures that will see her playing a carefree female lorry driver who is suddenly forced to care for her estranged 11-year-old son when his father is taken seriously ill. Think Raising Helen meets Convoy.

And co-starring with her in the movie is Nathan Fillion, the former captain of Serenity and a man who deserves far more success than his films have achieved to date. Also in the cast are Joey Lauren Adams, Jimmy Bennett and Benjamin Bratt, who plays the sprog’s sick dad.

Such is Monaghan’s passion for the project that, not only is she a producer on the film, but she’s also been taking truck-driving lessons to prepare for the role. Let’s hope writer-director James Mottern appreciates her efforts. If he doesn’t he’d better watch his back crossing the road.
